Given how much we all need it, it seems strange to say that money is the culprit in all these scams. Not simple money but complex money. Mounds of it. Tons of it. Billions of it. So much of it that the best of us might be tempted. So, the only way to stop these depredations is to take charge of our own affairs. Take away the power of the ministers and bureaucrats to decide for us. MK Gandhi, Indian freedom fighter and thinker had written about precisely these dangers in his seminal book, titled ‘Hind Swaraj’ (India’s Freedom) in 1909. In this thin volume Gandhi was uncannily prescient in his analysis of all the shibboleths of the modern age: development, growth, progress, economic growth, industrialisation, etc, etc.
I wish the people of Trinidad and Tobago who are fighting this battle sufficient power to win against this devilish system of profit and finance that seeks to swallow the entire earth.
