1000 acres of forest graded down for smelter. Union Village, Vessigny, Square Deal are shown sandwiched between the site and the sea. The rectangular formation, shaped like an eight, is the Vessigny Beach facility. Three dams were also compacted and the Vessigny River diverted.

Yes exactly.. no amount of money can make up for the loss of this beauty, ecology, biodiversity and way of life, culture, and spirit which is eradicated here. in fact the millenium ecosystem study 2000 showed that IN ALL CASES the economic costs of exploiting an ecosystem were greater than the economic benefits from industry profit etc. (when the full range of ecosystem services such as clean air, water, soil were taken into account). (cannot work out how to attach graph from the study im afraid). The science of cost benefit analyses is skewed to prop up the rapacious short term mindset of profiteering corporations. ..but one day they will discover that they cannot eat and breathe money. Bring on that day!

So much love and solidarity to you in the fight. Keep it up and don’t stop. We are with you..in Iceland, and in all corners of the world!
